The fear of the death of a dream.

The fear of the death of a dream. I am a very goal driven person. I love to dream and envision and achieve those goals. This obviously is a huge part of our travel style too. But with it comes the obvious possibility of failure or insurmountable obstacles. Usually I can transition well if something doesn’t work out but this summer’s goal to head to Alaska was 2 years in the making. So it meant a A LOT to me. The first year COVID and border closures prevented us from going. This year we made it 2 hours from the Canadian border only to find out that the registration on our fifth wheel had expired and we couldn’t renew it unless we returned to Virginia and had it inspected. When taking a giant 5th wheel across the border, you don’t want to have anything out of sorts. I had stressed, read, researched and planned EVERYTHING to be ready. So when we pulled into Great Falls MT and found out this news it was a real huge gut punch! We spent an entire week trying to find a solution only to run into wall after wall. Then…….in the 11th hour a solution finally worked out! We had to change our route, head 8 hours in the wrong direction to South Dakota, and cancel 2 weeks at a full hook up spot in Banff National Park. BUT…..the dream was still alive!! AND!!!!….we became South Dakota Residents!!!! Which of course makes us totally LEGIT Fulltime RVers now, right?! Anyhow, If you are still reading at this point, thanks! We are still headed to Alaska! And LOVE our new SD drivers license, tags, and the small raise that will come from not having to pay income tax. Stay tuned for the next adventure as we head across the border into Canada!

Y’all this is my heartbeat right here. Backpacking in the mountains with amazing views and my favorite people. . I’m pretty sure this looks far more like what most people thought we meant when we said we were going to be RVing full time. Right?! . Back in August we set out on our first family backpacking trip in the Mt. Hood National forest. After ALOT of prep work and research and gear purchasing, we finally were ready to get out there! . My mom heart could not be more stoked that my kids are wanting to do this kind of thing as they are getting older, and that all those hikes that we powered through when they were younger and whiny are finally paying off . . Tent camping is still the worst, for anyone that is wondering , but I loved being out in the wilderness and waking up in the mountains with the the sun and the birds, and getting to experience something new. . What about you? Does this sound like torture to you or an awesome way to adventure? .
