Liam’s Surgery. ✹ One of the main reasons we planned to go “home” before COVID was for Liam to have an outpatient surgery on his eyes. ✹ We have known since he was little he’d have to have a surgery when he was older to help an eye that turned out. ✹ And one thing I actually love about traveling full-time is that it forces me to plan ahead and group all of our medical visits together for the few weeks we plan to be home. ✹ Of course his surgery was initially cancelled because of lockdown. But lucky for us, as soon as Virginia went into Phase 2, they rescheduled him. ✹ There was a lot of anxiety in all of this for me and with COVID only one of us could take him. But as I always do with the things that scare me, I prayed and asked the Lord to protect him and provide peace. And as always, He did. ✹ Liam did great. He never handles coming out of anesthesia well. But I was prepared for it and prepped the nurses too. And about an hour after surgery he was ready for some Chic Fil A. ✹ This is Liam’s 2nd surgery in his short 7 years of life. We have tried to make these experiences ones that bolster his confidence that he can do hard and scary things. ✹ We also let him pick out a toy that he gets after it’s all over, which has proven to be the best way to distract him from all the medical stuff and shift his focus on the excitement of the prize for his courage at the end. ✹ We are now 2 months out and his eyes have recovered perfectly! We are so glad that we didn’t freak out and cancel the surgery because of Coronavirus. And we are grateful for the awesome medical staff that made our experience amazing! ✹ Now I hope we are done with surgeries and hospitals for a while . ✹

Y’all this is my heartbeat right here. Backpacking in the mountains with amazing views and my favorite people. . I’m pretty sure this looks far more like what most people thought we meant when we said we were going to be RVing full time. Right?! . Back in August we set out on our first family backpacking trip in the Mt. Hood National forest. After ALOT of prep work and research and gear purchasing, we finally were ready to get out there! . My mom heart could not be more stoked that my kids are wanting to do this kind of thing as they are getting older, and that all those hikes that we powered through when they were younger and whiny are finally paying off . . Tent camping is still the worst, for anyone that is wondering , but I loved being out in the wilderness and waking up in the mountains with the the sun and the birds, and getting to experience something new. . What about you? Does this sound like torture to you or an awesome way to adventure? .
