“Keep your head up, keep your love. The opposite of love is indifference. ” – the Lumineers ✹
The week we were here was a tough one. ✹
I am one that doesn’t shy away from hard things, things that bring growth. I just usually prefer these opportunities in a format that I am prepared for, that I expect. Unfortunately, life and friendship don’t always allow for that. ✹
In these unexpected hard times though, I think we find out who we really are. What we are really made of. ✹
Sometimes the truth revealed is good, other times not so much. Other times it’s a mixed bag of both. But nonetheless it’s always an opportunity for growth. ✹
The temptation for me can be to want to build a wall, to go into “hiding”…to stop loving and being loved, to self-protect. But I know I’ve worked too hard for that. I also believe in redemption and restoration too much for that too. So instead, I fight. ✹
I fight through the hard feelings, the hard truths about myself, the hard truths about others, fight for truth, fight for love and I grieve. Hopefully, I also gain more empathy and grace for others in the process too. ✹
As l spent the day exploring Colonial Williamsburg with these amazing little girls I was reminded that my investment in them, my own wholeness and in truth was the best one…not just for me, but also for them. ✹
Life will consistently throw things at them that they will not expect and the best thing I can give them is a solid foundation of who they are and how to keep their love. Then, no matter what comes their way, they are ready to stand and face it with confidence and grace. ✹
So here’s to all the people out there working through hard things and coming out stronger on the other side! We got this! You got this! Even when it’s hard..keep your head up, keep your love! ✹
