The reason it is such a cool color is bc it’s a meromictic lake, a lake whose waters do not mix. Yeah, I’d never heard of it either .

There are only 36 meromictic lakes in the world and New York State has 6 of them with 3 right outside of Syracuse and 2 here at Green Lakes state park.

Lucky for us, some of our friends live right up the road from this gorgeous state park and were able to show us around!
