.
To provide opportunities for our kids to grow in their abilities and their confidence! To broaden their understanding of what they can do and to remove limits from their perspective of what is attainable.
.
Watching our daughters confidently and cautiously take on Angels Landing was one of those moments that made us so proud.
.
Joseph and I planned to do this hike by ourselves since my in-laws were in town. We talked for a couple of days about whether we should take the girls or not. But we just weren’t sure if we should.
.
It’s a dangerous hike, if you aren’t aware and careful….but mainly only in the last 1/2 mile of the trail. We never want to take our kids places that they aren’t ready for. So we are very deliberate in what adventures we take on.
.
As we continued to research it. I increasingly felt that they could do it. Especially with preparation and awareness of what kind of hike it was.
.
We decided we’d hike together up to Scout’s Landing, then reassess after we had eyes on the last 1/2 mile. Once we made it there we again chose to take it one section at a time and if it looked sketchy or unsafe, we’d turn around.
.
The girls were super cautious and did AMAZING! They handled it all with complete ease!
.
It was a great experience for all of us and such good training for our ultimate goal of hiking rim to rim in the Grand Canyon this fall!
.
But I’ll be honest, I was super happy to get back down off the chains section (last 1/2 mile). And had I seen where we were hiking from the valley before the hike, I may have been too scared to do it! It looks way scarier from a distance then it does up close.
.
I’m so glad that my girls (and me too, I guess ) are learning how not to let fear hold us back. That with wisdom and caution we can push past fear and accomplish so much!
.
Cheers to all you strong, confident, and adventurous ladies out there! Let’s keep pushing through and teaching our daughters (and sons) to do the same!
